Critical Review: Which Tympanic Measures (multifrequency or Standard) Are Effective for Detecting Otosclerosis in Patients with Middle Ear Disorders?
نویسنده
چکیده
This critical review examines whether multifrequency tympanometry is more effective than standard tympanometry for detecting otosclerosis in adults with middle ear disorders. Study designs included: one Non-randomized Clinical Trial(between and within groups), four Non-randomized Clinical TrialMixed (between). Overall, the evidence indicates that multifrequency tympanometry provides a more efficient technique in detecting otosclerosis than standard tympanometry.

Standard and multifrequency tympanometry in normal and otosclerotic ears.
OBJECTIVES The primary goal of this study was to evaluate alternative tympanometric parameters for distinguishing normal middle ears from ears with otosclerosis. A secondary goal was to provide guidelines and normative data for interpreting multifrequency tympanometry obtained using the Virtual 310 immittance system. DESIGN Nine tympanometric measures were examined in 68 normal ears and 14 ea...

متن کاملWideband acoustic immittance: Concepts and clinical utility
Measurements of middle ear (ME) acoustic power flow and related measures (e.g., reflectance, absorbance, impedance, resistance, and reactance) have several important advantages over other measures of acoustic impedance, such as the clinical “gold standard” measure, tympanometry. In addition to its wide bandwidth and ease of use, the absorbance curve, on a dB scale, has a shape that is similar t...

The history is critical in the diagnosis of otosclerosis. The typical symptoms of otosclerotic deafness are a gradually increasing unilateral or bilateral hearing loss, most frequently occurring between the end of the second and fifth decades; the presence of paracusis of Willis, and tinnitus. In two thirds of the patients, there is a family history of deafness with autosomal dominant pattern o...
